SSM has gone through all the Federal legislative bodies and up to the Supreme Court in Canada (and in the Supreme Court of several Provinces) and has received complete legal sanction.
The Supreme Court of Canada assents.
The Federal Government assents.
The Senate assents.
The Human Rights Commission mandates equality in this matter.
The majority of Provincial Governments assent.
Marriage in Canada now applies to any two people regardless of sex.
Marriage in Canada has reciprocity with other countries. Some States in the US are passing legislation that will mean that a Canadian same sex marriage will not be recognised in that State.
It has taken Canada decades to come to its present fully accepting status, and the US will probably take as long. In the meantime, get married in Canada. Many States give full benefits to such unions, short of using the word "marriage".
